Villa Lontana presents the second edition of Organum Multiplum, a festival of contemporary music for organ conceived as a sonic and spiritual journey across the city of Rome. This year’s edition unfolds across four historic basilicas: San Giovanni in Laterano, Santa Maria in Aracoeli, Santa Cecilia in Trastevere and Santa Maria ad Martyres – Pantheon. Featuring Ellen Arkbro, James McVinnie & Tristan Perich, Heinali & Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko with Hampus Lindwall, and Steve Reich, the 2026 program continues the research initiated last year, expanding the conversation around the organ by bringing it into dialogue with other instruments.
Considered the oldest synthesizer, the pipe organ traces its origins to the hydraulis of Greco-Roman antiquity. Over the centuries, its development has been closely connected to the architecture and liturgical life of churches. Organum Multiplum revisits this relationship through contemporary sound experimentation, bringing ancient traditions into dialogue with new forms of expression and exploring the connections between sound and spirituality. The title pays homage to Alfredo Leonardi’s 1967 film Organum Multiplum.
Alongside the concert program, the festival extends to Villa Lontana’s space in Trastevere with Modular Organ System, a site-specific sound installation by Phillip Sollmann & Konrad Sprenger, on view from 10 November to 3 December 2026.
All concerts are free to attend upon registration, subject to capacity.

Organum Multiplum revisits this relationship through contemporary sound experimentation, bringing ancient traditions into dialogue with new forms of expression and exploring the connections between sound and spirituality. Each concert is conceived in relation to the particular acoustics and architecture of the churches, allowing the musical works to enter into dialogue with the history and spatial qualities of the basilicas.
Alongside the concert program, the festival extends to Villa Lontana’s space in Trastevere with Modular Organ System, a site-specific sound installation by Phillip Sollmann & Konrad Sprenger, on view from 10 November to 3 December 2026.
